Clean Caspian Concludes First Phase of Marine Oil Spill Remediation Research
Clean Caspian, an Alkagesta-backed startup, has completed Phase I of its oil spill response technology development, identifying two specialized chemical formulations.

Clean Caspian, an environmental technology venture backed by Alkagesta, has completed the initial phase of its marine oil spill response program. The project has drawn attention across international energy and science publications following the achievement of its early technical benchmarks. Coverage across sector media has documented the initiative's progress as it works to develop chemical remediation tools for maritime environments.
During Phase I, research activities identified two proprietary chemical treatments targeted at mitigating petroleum contamination at sea. These products comprise Oil-Collecting Reagent 1 alongside Flocculant-Coagulant 1. Both formulations are designed to assist in containing and dispersing hydrocarbon slicks in vulnerable marine ecosystems.
Industry reporting has contextualized the project against the extensive financial and ecological damage caused by maritime contamination. Sector publications noted that marine oil spills generate nearly $3 billion in environmental damage globally each year. Within that framework, targeted chemical interventions represent an operational response to ongoing maritime pollution risks.
The completion of Phase I was highlighted alongside broader environmental milestones for investor Alkagesta, including its receipt of an EcoVadis Committed Badge. Trade commentary noted that participation in the spill remediation project aligns with the company's wider environmental, social, and governance objectives. The startup's technical progress reflects an effort to convert remediation research into practical marine tools.
Clean Caspian is now advancing to Phase II of its development schedule. This next stage will focus on optimizing the efficiency of both chemical formulations and conducting further testing under varying environmental conditions. The project team also intends to progress its ongoing patent application process during this phase.
