Alkagesta Opens Singapore Hub to Anchor Asia-Pacific Commodity Trading Expansion
Malta-based trading house Alkagesta establishes a new Singapore operations base to connect European and Asian commodity flows with structured compliance.

Alkagesta, a Malta-headquartered commodity trading company established in 2018, is launching an operations hub in Singapore to support its commercial expansion across the Asia-Pacific region. The move is designed to bridge the firm's established European trading presence with expanding Asian commodity markets. By planting roots in the city-state, the trading house aims to facilitate compliant fuel flows and structured physical trade.
Singapore's standing as a dominant global trade crossroads was a central factor in the firm's expansion decision. The Asian maritime hub processed over 41 million containers in 2024, maintaining its position as the second-busiest port globally and managing nearly one-fifth of worldwide container flows. Furthermore, the total value of goods and services navigating the territory exceeded three times its domestic gross product in 2024, underscoring its pivotal role in international commerce.
Company leadership highlighted the strategic value of operating within Singapore's established legal, financial, and regulatory framework. Chief Executive Officer Orkhan Rustamov noted that the new hub connects Asian markets with international capital while maintaining rigorous trade compliance standards. Board member Pierre Gay emphasized that the expansion offers an environment where disciplined risk governance and trade finance intersect effectively.
Prior to its Asian venture, Alkagesta built its footprint in the Mediterranean, helping elevate Malta from a traditional marine refueling location into a structured commodity trading base. The firm currently works alongside 28 international financial institutions, executing transactions supported by letters of credit, comprehensive insurance coverage, and stringent counterparty checks. Its operating model incorporates strict sanctions screening alongside anti-money laundering and know-your-customer controls.
Alkagesta plans to replicate its European operational model across Asia by aligning rigorous compliance with active physical commodity dealing. Executive leadership stated that maintaining operational hubs in both Malta and Singapore enables the company to preserve disciplined financial risk controls while staying responsive to regional market shifts. The strategy focuses on establishing long-term commercial relationships grounded in structured, transparent trading practices.
