Alkagesta Expands Biodiesel Trading Operations into Romanian Market

Malta-headquartered trading firm Alkagesta has broadened its commercial activities in Romania by venturing into sustainable biofuel trading. The company has executed multiple pilot transactions involving EN 14214 standard Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME 01) biodiesel. These initial sales adhere strictly to relevant European Union specifications as well as domestic regulatory frameworks in Romania.

The operational move is part of the merchant's broader international expansion across renewable fuels, positioning Romania within Europe's broader green energy distribution networks. Alkagesta holds International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) registration, ensuring its bio-feedstocks and end products fulfill standard traceability, environmental, and transparency requirements. All commercial operations are structured to comply with the EU's Renewable Energy Directive (RED III).

According to Alkagesta Chief Executive Officer Orkhan Rustamov, Romania maintains the geographic location and resources required to develop into a regional hub for renewable fuels. The company aims to support European decarbonisation goals while establishing consistent local distribution channels for cleaner liquid fuels across Southeast Europe.

Founded in 2018, Alkagesta manages cross-border commodity trade flows exceeding 7 million metric tonnes annually across operations in 42 countries. The merchant maintains active financing and working relationships with 28 international banking institutions, supporting its physical distribution activities throughout global markets.

To support its physical flows, the trading house utilizes an integrated logistics footprint featuring access to more than 700,000 cubic meters of bulk liquid storage capacity located across Europe and Asia. The company continues to deploy its supply chain infrastructure to capture emerging trade routes in both conventional energy and renewable transport fuels.
